Roasting Alive

We recently had a chimney put up, and a wood stove put in. We have had the windows open a lot and haven't needed the oil furnace at all. Right now I am in a T-shirt and shorts in the basement sweating! Oh well, at least we are getting plenty of exercise chopping wood.

The Science Factory

About two weeks ago, we took a field trip to The Science Factory. They had a bunch of hands-on FUN activities. Here are just a few:

Here, we poured sand into a funnel that was hanging on a string. Then we swung it in any direction to watch it make a design. There were two different funnels. This one was hanging on two strings at the top and the other one was only attached to one string.

This one was one of my favorites. There were two little plastic men attached to miniature parachutes which we stuffed into a hole in the side of a huge tube. It fired them up through the tube into the air and came floating down to the ground.

Here, Jacob is building a dragster out of k'nex. They give you instructions so that even I could build one.

My dragster won the whole time because Mom's and Jacob's engines were broken.

This was my FAVORITE. We had to try build a dam out of metal blocks. After a while the water pressure built so much that it pushed the blocks out of its way!

The Dragging of the Dog

Amy is the funniest little dog, she lets me drag her threw the yard on her back! She is so much fun.

Favorite Flower

I never really had a favorite flower until I saw this one. Mom and I were walking along the side of the road when it caught my eye. It took a little research but I finely discovered that its' name is Venice Mallow.

Depressing colors

I am getting very depressed down here in our basement. Do you know why? Because the main colors down here are black, gray, white, and blue. THOSE ARE VERY DEPRESSING COLORS!!! Especially since we are struggling to get out of Winter weather and into spring weather! I just had to get that out. Thank you for indulging me. By the way it is still cold down here.

Sad news

Yesterday my dear little hamster died. We don't know what happened to her. I am very sad and I miss her a lot. But I keep on asking myself, that as much as I loved her, how much more does JESUS love me?

Spring birds

At the beginning of spring, Mom and I made these little birds.
The one on the left is Chortles, and the one on the right is Pip.
The chicks' names are Chickadee, Chimmaroo, and Tweedledie.
Mom is tiered of seeing them, she says that they are starting to make the house look cluttered.
But instead of throwing them away, we are going to try to sell them at our upcoming yard sale.

Will's School

A few years ago, we ended our 1800's co-op by going to a one-room schoolhouse called Will's School.

We did several different subjects: reading, geography and math.

We played a few indoor games.

But mostly we played outdoor games.

I am not sure what this game is called, but it was a lot of fun!
Here is how to play:
1. Roll up two newspapers (make sure they are tight) and loop 2 rubber bands around each one.
2. Blind fold two players and have them lie on the ground so that they are facing each other.
3. Both players grasp one of their opponent's hands.
4. Players take turns trying to whack their opponent, while their opponent tries to dodge the blows.
The player with the most hits wins!

A final game we played was a potato-sack race. It was from the tree to the end of the yard and back.

On the way back, Caleb reached forward, grabbed Jake's shoulder and pulled him back, while Ben jumped out of his sack and "won" the race.

Pooh art

Mom and I traced these onto paper and then we used watercolors. Mom colored Owl and Piglet, while I did Eeyore and Pooh.

Tickling the Ivories

It's April 28th, and why am I bundled up? BECAUSE IT'S 65 DEGREES IN THE HOUSE AND MOM WON'T TURN ON THE HEAT!
